Biophilia is the love for nature inherent in all humans. Biophilic design increases productivity and reduces anxiety – and incorporates greenery into your interior spaces. The benefits of indoor plants also include improving air quality, dampening sound pollution and bringing bare spaces to life.
Greenverse Biophilia brings together a team of young and creative landscape designers and horticulturists. We use technology and design to cater to a wide variety of aesthetic tastes, creating a ‘livegreen’ look in offices, homes, terraces, balconies, farmhouses and more.
Hydroponics is the science of growing plants in nutrient solutions without soil or cocopeat. Hydroponics is popular for growing vegetables like lettuce and tomatoes, but is becoming popular now for ornamental plants as well.
Hydroculture uses inert growing media like clay aggregates to create a ‘passive hydroponic effect’. This has the advantage of providing the plant roots with both oxygen and water. It is more economical and requires less maintenance than both cocopeat and soil-based planting. It also improves the appearance and longevity of plants, while requiring less watering, soil-changing, soil loosening and weeding.
Advantages of Hydroculture over Soil/Peat:
Soil | Hydroculture |
Needs repeated changing to replenish nutrients and remove soil-borne fungi and pests. | No need for replacement. Nutrients are provided through nutrient reservoir; no place for fungi or pests to grow. |
Mess and smell caused by loose or wet soil. | Clean and odourless. |
Harbours weeds and mosquitoes. | Does not accommodate weeds or mosquitoes. |
Makes the planter heavy. | Light in weight. |
Requires drainage facilities to avoid waterlogging which makes roots unhealthy. | No drainage required as there is no waterlogging; leads to healthier and well-nourished roots. |
Requires frequent watering. | Reduces watering frequency as hydroculture retains water for longer. |
No way to measure water levels, leading to over- or underwatering. | Water meters allow for scientific watering to adequate levels. |
Short-lived plants with earlier yellowing of leaves. | Longer-lived, greener plants. |
